How I Made An Extra $500 In One Week With ‘Stuff’ Around The House

One look around the house this week and I discovered I was sitting on gold so to speak.

Have you ever been short of cash and wondered how you would come up with the cash to make ends meet or just simply wanting to declutter.  Have you ever been overwhelmed with ‘stuff’ everywhere? What if I told you that you can turn 90% of that ‘stuff’ into cash? I did just the other week and I’m sharing the steps I took.

I typically have tried to live as a minimalist and so I pride myself in not having clutter, boy was I wrong.

I could not believe how much ‘stuff’ I had. I made $500 by doing the following:

1. Make a decision. Yes, you have to commit.  Decide you are going to remove any sentimental attachments you may have going into this project.
2. I listed anything that did not meet my criteria, which was ‘stuff’ I hadn’t touched in over 6 months
3. List not only your ‘stuff’ but list everyone else’s in the house. Tip: do this when the kids are not around to avoid the “This is my favorite “ (fill in the blank).
4. Not everyone can do this, but I happened to have a few items that I could rent out for the weekend and I did (karaoke machine; popcorn maker).

Tip for selling on Kijiji / Craigslist price a little higher as purchasers are always looking for a bargain. Leave wiggle room for negotiation.

I’m now motivated to get this done on a much larger scale in the early Spring. This time around I’ll be tackling the basement. Most likely this will be a garage sale and I’ll be recruiting a few neighbors to get traction. I’ll provide an update on how I made out.
