Today my word is de.clut.ter, so we’re not all going to be Martha Stewart; however, I believe taking these steps once a week is a good start to living a more organized clutter free life. Who knows you might just enjoy this new found activity.
You may be wondering and asking “what has decluttering got to do with my finances or career?” Well it does.
Decluttering is an easy activity and it only appears daunting because we get attached to some of these items that either no longer serve a purpose or have outgrown their purpose in our homes. Remember it’s not all bad, an end of life item at your home; could be a new life in another home, so you’re doing more good than harm. Key is to begin today.
- Clothing that no longer fits (yes, you would eventually loose those 15 pounds and when you do, you can buy an outfit as motivation in the meantime donate or sell what you’re not wearing to free your closet of clutter, it also could be so three seasons ago).
- Dried up pens and printer cartridges
- Condiments (I bet you’ll be amazed that most of these have expired and will be sickened by the wastage)
- Storage tubs in the kitchen (especially the ones that do not have a lid or you got from ordering out)
- Another that goes along with #4 is plastic silverware/cutlery that you get from the fast food restaurants, throw them out they are also not good for the environment, so only take these if necessary when offered.
- Electrical cords (most of these you can’t even figure out what machine they work with anymore)
- Lotion containers (once you’ve determined that you can no longer get any substance out of these get rid of them including hair gels; shampoos, sunscreens etc.)
- Perfume Bottles (the bottle looks pretty, but it’s only cluttering your dresser table)
- For ladies old makeup this is not only to get rid of clutter but important for your health.
- Kitchen appliances (you have so many and have probably only used one or two in the last two years. Donate if they’re still in good condition or sell)
- Shoes that still look nice but are too tight or you know deep down you’ll never wear again. Find out here how I turned an old pair of shoes to cash.
- Expired Canned goods in the pantry
- Expired Boxed items such as cookies, cereals etc.,
- Expired medication
- That old boxed clunker (T.V.; Stereos; Cellphones; batteries (a word of caution on these do follow proper disposal methods) etc.,
So you see, getting rid of the clutter, allows you to turn some of your ‘clutter’ into cash ; free time to search for that all important Powerhouse job. You can either save the cash or invest the cash or use the cash to pay down debt or purchase that power suit 🙂
What’s holding you back? I would love to read your comments about other obvious and not so obvious items that you have got rid of and how you declutter.
What’s the weirdest item you’ve ever sold for cash?
Till Next Time,
