Meditate
I personally believe this sets the tone for the day. Praying or meditating isn’t only a morning chore. Take time to do this as needed. It could be right after you got off that annoying phone call or got out of that hairy meeting.
Praying/meditating is a great way to gain clarity; focus and be motivated for the day ahead and I find in the afternoons that this is needed for the exact things I noted above. At night this becomes a matter of me asking myself
- “How did I do today?”
- “What could have been done differently?
This way you set the tone for the next day and most importantly you go to bed ending the day
on a positive note.
Write in a Journal Daily
Find a quite space to write ~ I find writing in your journal helps bring clarity to things you may have dealt with during the day. It helps you channel any negative feelings on paper rather than to the person who may have offended you.
It’s also a good way to release any tensions or stress because you’re writing down exactly how you feel.
Writing also helps you dream and be creative about your life. Don’t hold back, do write the good (you’d be surprised how many blessings you experience daily); the bad and the ugly.
Create a Bucket List
I love this especially because these are goals and eventually you get to check things off, which gives you a natural high.
The goal is to actually check items off that list as they occur. Don’t worry if it doesn’t happen the very instance or year you wrote it, the key point you’ve written it down and the more you see it, the more your inner man begins to give you creative ways to bring this to pass. When I wrote “do a marathon” I wasn’t in the best of shapes and it took me over 3 years to eventually do that Marathon and I have since completed over five full and half marathons.
Don’t put things off. Procrastination is the thief of time and robs you of so many things. Put in a sense of urgency. What if I die next week, what are the things I would regret not trying?
Get to work on that list. You never know your dream unleashes your potential!
Do Something that Scares You
This is a strange one but trust me, it helps to challenge yourself in this way. Life isn’t always about the Yeses there are unfortunately the No’s that we get, so what we tend to do is put those aside and never do anything about it.
Sometimes we just got to feel the fear and do it, so I say to you, the worst anyone can say or do is ‘No’ don’t hold back. Get out of the box and…
- Go make that call, yes that one you’ve been putting off
- Apply for that job
- Submit that business proposal
- Start that business
- Go back to School (you’re going to get older anyway)
Who knows what you could score when you ask: free tickets to that Broadway Show or for me movie pass for the family, I saved $60.
Have a Savings Account
There are no ifs and buts about it. Start easily by committing to saving 10% of your income.
This is a wealth creation tip that you cannot afford to overlook. Pay yourself first.
Give to Charity
Most religions support this (meaning you give 10% of your income to your religious institution or a charity of choice), I find it’s one of the most liberating things to do.
It helps because you know you’re not being controlled by money and I can honestly tell you, give and it comes back to you in many ways you cannot imagine.
Many of the worlds’ richest have made pledges to give more to charitable works and I can tell you aside from the tax benefits most people think, it is actually the satisfaction of making a difference that fuels their giving.
Think about it of what use is all the money sitting in the bank after you’re gone?
Fast from Social Media and Emails
The benefit of this is a no-brainer. We’ve become so consumed with our electronic devices that it’s difficult for some to think about life without it. We’ve made these devices mini-gods.
But essentially we’re becoming a society addicted and sadly we’ve passed this down to the younger generations who are now worse off than we are. I witnessed my kid Face Time a friend who was sitting in the same room, I was horrified.
Take an hour; a half day or a full day off. Add this to your routine to reduce the overload and stress. You don’t need to keep up with what the Joneses are doing every minute.
Start Your Side Hustle
I can never state this enough… Everyone needs another source of income other than your main 9 to 5.
Create a side hustle that runs on autopilot; invest in Real Estate; Stock Market; etc., whatever, it is that piques your interest and you’ve researched get started on a legal side hustle.
Multiple streams of income is not for poor people, in fact, name one rich person and you will immediately see their source of wealth isn’t only in the one business he or she may be known for.
Think about this, what would your cash flow look like if you made an extra $1,000 a week or month? You need a side hustle?
Struggling with where to start? Here’s a non-exhaustive list I put together to get you started.
Exercise Daily
This isn’t negotiable a popular saying goes like “when there’s health, there is wealth”
You tell me, what’s the point of having all that money if you’re not healthy enough to spend it?
Exercising helps to not only keep you healthy, but it releases stress; gives you natural energy (no need for coffee).
Along with exercising, practicing great personal hygiene is very important:
- Floss your teeth daily, this prevents gum disease and reduces bad breath
- Wash your hands
- Change your makeup tools (brushes etc., at least every 3 months)
- Lay your bed after waking up each morning (First task of the day checked)
Create Time to have fun
This is important, we do need some down time to have rest and relaxation.
You have to build this into your repertoire. This also allows you to spend much needed time with your family and for those that have teenagers a great bonding time. Hopefully, you can get them to speak to you and take their eyes off their devices. I’ll go as far as saying make this a device free time.
Fun could be a number of things you do together as a family: cycling; having dinner or breakfast together; trying out new things; vacationing or staycationing in town. The point is to get some much-needed R & R.
BONUS…
Get Some Sleep
A lot of us including myself do lack sleep. And the consequences are dire.
For years now, I struggle with an inability to lose weight, until my trainer one day asked “how much sleep do you get?” I didn’t think that had anything to do with anything, but I’ve since come to realize and as I read up on the need for sleep. The benefit of sleep far outweighs any excuse you can make.
This key piece of knowledge has made me more aware that this one missing ingredient in my routine is causing the excess weight. This is an area I’m actively working on, and I hope to report back shortly.
This list is not exhaustive, but a great way to take control of and start living a meaningful life.
Till next time,
