Netflix is shaking up how we watch TV by introducing changes that will make binge-watching a thing of the past. Starting in November, Netflix subscribers can watch a “lower priced ad-supported plan.” The Basics with Ads will cost $6.99 per month in the US and launch on November 3 at 9 am PT.
Basics with Ads will be available in Australia, Brazil, Canada, France, Germany, Italy, Japan, Korea, Mexico, Spain, the UK, and the US. Current plans and members will not be impacted, according to information on Netflix website.
Ad length is expected to be between 15 to 30 seconds, which will play before and during shows and films. This is an exciting opportunity for advertisers itching to reach a diverse audience, a win for both Advertisers and Netflix, but not so much for the consumer.
Is this the end of binge-watching as we know it? Or will viewers find ways around these new restrictions? Only time will tell.
