Fire officials say that a stampede on a narrow street at a Seoul Halloween event has killed 153 and injured at least 133.
An official believes that people were crushed to death after a crowd began surging in a narrow alley near Hamilton Hotel, a significant party spot in the Itaewon district known for its nightlife.
Emergency workers transported the injured to hospitals around Seoul, and the daunting task of identifying the dead who were mainly teens and those in their early 20s.
Most of the victims are from Seoul and 20 foreign nationals from as far as Australia. Investigations continue on the root cause of this tragic incident the first of its kind post-pandemic.
