In a not-to-shocking twist of events, Republicans have been unable to elect a speaker after three rounds of voting on the opening day of the 118th United States Congress.
Republican Conference Leader Kevin McCarthy’s fate remains unknown as he vies to be the 128th Speaker of the U.S. House of Representatives.
Democrat Hakeem Jefferies ended all three voting rounds with 212 in a show of democratic solidarity that was evident today.
There could be voting for several more days till either the magical number of 218 is reached or redefined if enough members skip the vote.
